Creative Writing for Mums

This friendly course will gently guide you through the creation of a keepsake collection of writing, inspired by your experience of motherhood.

So, if you identify as a mother and would love to document the reality of becoming a parent, but aren’t sure where to begin, this is for you!

I will help to ignite your imagination and guide you through the creation of your collection, to build a keepsake for yourself or to save for your child when they grow up, or perhaps even become a parent themselves.

Don’t worry if you haven’t written since school, or if you’ve lost your creative spark in the haze of motherhood. As an experienced teacher and writing specialist, I’ll help you to develop your collection to preserve your thoughts and emotions at this wonderful, turbulent, exhausting time!

FAQ

Who are you?

I’m Sarah Parrott, owner of Write Sparks and an experienced teacher and writing specialist. I live in SE London with my two wonderful, exhausting children. Throughout my complicated motherhood adventure, I’ve found writing to be a powerful tool to process my emotions, to document our journey and to give me the creative outlet I need. I’m excited about helping other women to access the joy and catharsis that writing can bring to their own experiences of motherhood.

I don’t have any writing experience, does that matter?

No! Even if you haven’t written since school, I’ll be able to guide you to create a wonderful collection of writing. I’m an experienced teacher and writing specialist and I’ve put this course together carefully to ensure that it will suit writers of any level. There’s no formal writing teaching in this course and no ‘rules’, it’s all about inspiring you to tell your story- and you’re the expert in that!

I’m an experienced writer, is this course for me?

Absolutely- whether you’re looking for a structure for a collection of writing about motherhood, or you need a spark to get your imagination up and running again, this course is for you. The tasks are all open for you to interpret as you wish and there’s scope for you to run with any ideas the course ignites along the way!

My children are all grown up, is this course for me?

Absolutely! Mothers with children of all ages are welcome on this course!

Do you offer subsidised places for this course?

Yes. If you feel that you would benefit from this course but the price is preventing you from signing up, please email Sarah at info@writesparks.co.uk to arrange a subsidised place.

What will I need for this course?

Nothing! You will be given a beautiful notebook and a special keepsake box to keep it in. All other materials will be provided. This writing is for you- for your emotional health, to exercise your creativity and to document your journey. How it looks is entirely up to you.

Is it like being at school?

There’ll be no focus on grammar, spelling or handwriting- simply a chance for you to express your ideas, enjoy being creative and build a collection of writing to document this turbulent, wonderful and emotional time. There are no right or wrong answers and there’s no need to share your writing with anyone if you don’t want to.

I have my own ideas for what I’d like to write about, is that ok?

Of course! I’d be thrilled for you to write as much as you like, however you like. You might find that once you get started, a task ignites an idea for something else you’d like to write about, or you might discover a new love for writing poetry, or fiction. If so, please let me know- I’d love to know which direction the course has taken you in!
