About Write Sparks

igniting the imaginations of young writers

Write Sparks was established in January 2018, with the aim of inspiring and supporting young writers. Through our creative writing clubs, special events and support for schools, we hope to encourage young people to love to write. There has been a great deal of energy, quite rightly, placed on ‘Reading for Pleasure’ in recent years. We would love to inspire more young people to find pleasure in writing too, both in and outside of school.

Sarah Parrott BA (Hons) PGCE (M) QTS

“In over ten years of working in Primary Schools, I have been a class teacher, lead for ‘Raising Achievement in Writing’ and Head of English. When my son was born with complex medical needs, I was unable to return to teaching in school. During one of the seemingly endless night feeds, I realised that there was a way that I could still teach and share my love for writing, but work around my family’s needs. Soon after, Write Sparks was born!

For the last few years I’ve loved teaching creative writing classes for young people; working with schools, bookshops and organisations to promote and improve the teaching of writing; and delivering writing workshops and events at a huge range of settings and festivals. I have been a judge for a number of national story competitions for young people and have run writing projects on a local and national scale.  I devour children’s books and I find my own much-needed escape in writing.

One of the true joys of developing Write Sparks, other than finding work that works for my family, has been meeting and collaborating with some wonderful people.
I’ve taught writing to many hundreds of young people and I am loving helping parents to find their creative voice on my online writing course.

Life is busy, but beautiful, living here in South London with my husband and our brilliant boy- and doing my best to fill our world with books and writing! “
